Russia was spared from Trump’s tariffs – an obvious sign of friendliness.
Meanwhile Putin has sent his “ace” Harvard-educated businessman, Kirill Dimitriev, to discuss various business deals with the Trump administration in an attempt to launch a new business relationship between the two countries.
After Zelensky recently rejected the re-written US-Ukraine minerals deal, Putin’s pounced to show Trump that Zelensky clearly doesn’t want to do business with USA, but Russia certainly does. Putin’s offer to Trump is music to Trump’s greedy ears.
The Russians have offered Trump a huge Arctic mineral deals worth one trillion dollars, includes untapped oil and gas to be shipped via the Northern Sea route by 2035, a much faster route than via Suez. Dmitriev proclaimed that the Arctic is “the next frontier” in the frozen north and “the gateway to Earth’s crown jewel.”
Dmitriev, Putin’s “Trump horse-whisperer” has also been involved in talks on a ceasefire deal with the USA. Trump desperately wants a Ukraine ceasefire as soon as possible. But Putin Is seizing the opportunity to convert the US from Russia’s adversary into a partner. If he succeeds, not only will he get his way with Ukraine, but the entire strategic alignment of the Western world will be shaken to its core.
